CORRIGIN BECOMES THE FIRST WHEATBELT CHILDCARE CENTRE TO JOIN REED
Childcare Centre Giggle Pots in Corrigin today became the first Wheatbelt Early Childcare and Education service to join the Regional Early Education and Development Inc (REED).
REED is a recently formed not-for-profit service that provides high quality Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services for Wheatbelt families. REED is creating a new cluster model of management to provide services across the Wheatbelt, working to reduce the burden on local Committees and Shires to provide these vital community services.
The 19 place Centre has been operating for 10 years, employs 5 staff and provides childcare assistance for up to 30 local working families will now be known as the Regional Early Education and Development – Corrigin (REED-Corrigin).
REED Board Chairperson Helen Creed and President of Giggle Pots Day Care, Robyn Crombie signed the formal merger agreement at the Centre today. The Shire of Corrigin CEO Natalie Manton was also present at the signing.
The Centre is located at 42 Lynch Street, and the building is owned by the Shire of Corrigin.
Robyn Crombie, who has been President of the Centre for the past three years said that she was excited that the Centre’s services and staff will be taken to the next level. “REED can provide that dedicated service and advice that we need for staffing, licensing and regulations as well as business and accounting support. Our staff will have some additional professional development and support, allowing them to deliver an extended education program to the children. We will also be able to share resources with other Wheatbelt ECEC Centres.”
Robyn wanted to also thank the Shire of Corrigin for their support and financial assistance to allow the Centre to merge with REED.
REED Board Chairperson, Helen Creed, said that “the REED team is so excited for the first centre to join us, and have worked hard to ensure that the transition is smooth. Another nine centres will follow Corrigin including Narembeen, Hyden and Brookton, and our staff will help them all to prepare to merge with REED and establish the framework for the sustainable regional ECEC which we will become’.
Officially launched by Minister Simone McGurk MLA, Minister forChild Protection; Women's Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services in Narrogin in March 2018, REED is funded in the establishment phase by the State Government and Lotterywest. 
Over the next 18 months, additional Wheatbelt ECEC services are expected to merge with REED.
