BRIAN
PRAETZ
Hi, I am Brian Praetz often
known as Buster. I was born
and raised in Corrigin,
completed my mechanical
trade at Interline Sales (many
years ago), own a farm in
Bulyee called Watervalley
and recently was elected as a
Councillor to the Corrigin
Shire. Mum and Dad still live
in town, my gorgeous partner Natalie does catering in Perth
and at times in Corrigin, I have a wonderful 21-year-old son
called Jack, whom worked during his holidays for CBH at
Jubuk and a talented daughter Jasmyn, whom is in Year 11.
Both Nat and myself are returning to Corrigin during 2017 to
commence farming our farm, something I have worked
tirelessly to achieve for over 40 years.
Corrigin is unique relative to many similar sized communities.
The Spirit of Corrigin has been forged over its 100 years by the
hard working men and women whom cleared the land, created
the community and provided a culture of “Can Do”. It is with
this legacy that I genuinely wanted to give to the community, to
ensure that the effort of Corrigin’s forefathers was carried on in
the most positive manner possible. I wanted to be a part of a
team of people who genuinely wanted to make the community
special, contribute the necessary time to support progress and
to ensure we leave the town in great shape for the next
generation. I am absolutely amazed at the quality of the
Councillors and the care factor that exists. I am also surprised
to see that we have two very young and extremely competent
Councillors whom are in their early 30’s, that are contributing
whilst having very young families – as a community we should
feel privileged at the quality of our future leaders if these two
are the examples. As both a Rate Payer and Councillor I have
been overwhelmed by the stewardship and quality of
leadership provided by President Baker, Deputy President
Hickey and our CEO Mr Rob Paull – these are quality people
whom give considerable time, effort and have such empathy in
wanting Corrigin to be a wonderful community.
The challenges now facing small communities such as Corrigin
are immense. There are less funds flowing from Royalties, the
ability to secure funding from Government is now a major
challenge and raising Rates revenue locally is never viewed
positively by rate payers. Unfortunately, community expectation
is that Council has to provide services, which is now becoming
a very real challenge to achieve.
“It is therefore critical as a community
that we work closely as a group, ignite our
pioneering spirit of “Can Do” and work with
the committed community spirit, to ensure our
future residents will enjoy the vibrancy of our
wonderful Corrigin, as we have experienced
for over 100 years”.
